A review of a Visit to Bai He Lake

It has been a long time since I last posted on here, so here is a long overdue article.

This is a review of Bai He Lake (白鹤湖) or White Crane Lake, located just to the north of the city of Yingtan in Jiangxi province.

I recently visited this attraction with my family and the following are my views on this attraction.

Together with my family we visited out of season in late January, yet the attraction was almost fully open and fairly busy on a bright sunny winter's day.

First. I will begin with a negative, there is no bus service that operates to here, so unless you have your own car , the only other options are taxi or Didi, the latter of which we chose. The cost of a Didi varied from 60RMB to 100RMB, so it is best to call several companies to get a good deal.

On our arrival at the entrance, having taken less than an hour to get there, we were surprised at the low cost of entry, 100 RMB for two adults and one child. Out of season this is certainly a good place for a cheap day out

Once inside there is a bus waiting to take you to the first area of attractions or you can walk about one km and save yourself 5 RMB. We chose to walk about 100 metres and get on the train ride that takes you around the major attractions. With tickets for the train, you can can on at any of the four stops and this we chose at the end of the day to return to the exit after a tiring day of walking.

There are several attractions once inside this main area to keep all ages entertained.

There are play areas for small children, plenty of trails and paths for walking and discovery, such as a Magic Forest, a wooden walkway across a small lake, although the lake was dried up as was the main lake and all areas were waiting on the rain to arrive in the spring to take them back to capacity.

The main lake has a number of attractions, including speed boats to take you across the main lake to a small zoo, which was a great way to keep small children interested. The animals we saw included giraffe's, marmots, large, and I mean large, rabbits, peacocks, and alpacas. The zoo was set out in a forest environment, all was very clean and well presented.

Taking the speed boat back across the lake , despite it being late January, it was warm enough to have a picnic on the beach. We then walked to the far end of the beach where there were more boats, these though not up to the speed of the speed boats were for hire , along with a jet ski. So we had a leisurely 30 minutes on the lake before walking to the Egret viewing platform which attracts bird watchers in the season when these birds are at their most active.

The next attraction for us was to visit the Go Karts, two laps of a large circuit were all that was permitted, and it was an enjoyable few minutes for my son, being driven around the course.

Our day was about over now, we had walked some distance and were all feeling tired, so we went to the train station and waited for the next train so we could complete the circular route that took us back to the entrance.

We then found another slight negative, nothing against the park itself, but the difficulty we had in finding a car to take us home. We eventually managed to book a car and arrived home feeling tired but all had an enjoyable time. It is an attraction I highly recommend.
