The Chinese Zodiac

The Chinese signs of the Zodiac are determined by the year of your birth with the Chinese New Year beginning in late January or February depending on the cycle of the moon.

Rat 鼠 Shǔ

People born in the year of the Rat are said to be charming, quick witted and loyal friends once people are allowed to get to know them. They are organized, honest and prefer to live under their own rules. The last year of the Rat was in 2008, with the next one in 2020.

 

Ox 牛 Niú

Anyone born during the year of the Ox is said to be a born leader, someone that inspires confidence in anyone that knows them. They are said to be conservative and methodical, good at most things they turn their hand to, but they have difficulty in relaxing and letting their hair down. The last year of the Ox was 2009, with the next one due in 2021.

Tiger 虎 Hǔ

For the people that are born in the year of the Tiger, they are again said to be born leaders, respected for their courage and easily able to stand up and fight for what they believe in. One negative is that they can be seen to be too bossy. 2010 was the last year of the Tiger, with the next one due to begin in 2022.

Rabbit 兔 Tù

Anyone that is born during the year of the Rabbit is said to be a warm and cosy type of person, they are also affectionate and obliging. They can however be seen as being too sentimental and superficial. They are cautious and conservative, making good negotiators and able to sort out or quell rows. The last year of the Rabbit was 2011, with the next one due in 2023.

Dragon 龙 Lóng

People that are born during the year of the Dragon are said to be full of life, enthusiastic and popular. They are said to be intelligent, gifted and perfectionists. They can also be intolerant towards others, and sharp or critical when in the company of other people. The year of the Dragon last occurred in 2012, with the next one being in 2024.

Snake 蛇 Shé

If you are born during the year of the Snake you are said to be a wise, charming and romantic person, deep thinking and full of intuition. You should try to avoid being stingy or tight with your money while keeping your sense of humour. The year of the Snake was last in 2013, with the next one not due until 2025.

Horse 马 Mǎ

Those people that are born in the year of the Horse are said to be very hard workers as well as being independent. They are not easily led, are intelligent and friendly. They can be prone to the occasional bout of showing off but in general they are well liked by just about anyone they meet. The last time we had a year of the Horse was in 2014, with the next one being in 2026.

 

Sheep 羊 Yáng

Anyone born in the year of the sheep is said to be excellent company, elegant and artistic. On the downside, they can have a reputation putting their foot down over anything they do not like, can be a whinger, or like to complain. The last year of the Sheep was in 2015, with the next one not until 2027.

Monkey 猴 Hóu

People that are born during the year of the Monkey are said to be intelligent and witty with a magnetic personality and generally well liked. People born under this sign of the Chinese zodiac should avoid being opportunistic, they also find it hard to trust others. The last time we had a year of the Monkey was in 2016, with the next one not due until 2028.

Rooster 公鸡 Gōngjī

Anyone that is born during the year of the Rooster is considered to be hard working, shrewd and good at decision making. They like to speak their mind but can be a little boastful at times. They like to look their best and are concerned about their appearance; this can sometimes lead to them being extravagant. This current year (2017) is the year of the Rooster, with the next one not until 2029.

 

Dog 狗 Gǒu

Just like real dogs, anyone born during the year of the Dog is considered to be a very loyal, faithful and honest friend; they will not let you down. They can however be a worrier and overly critical, with their bark being worse than their bite. 2006 was the last year of the dog; the next one begins on the 16th of February 2018.

Pig 猪 Zhū

People that are born in the year of the pig are considered to be good company, intellectual with a good strong sense of purpose, sincere and honest. People born during this year can however be naïve because they expect the same from others. The last time we had a year of the pig was back in 2007, the next one will be in 2019.
