Part 3 of 10 Reasons Why I Like Living in China

4/ food the authentic Chinese food in China is nothing like the food that is sold in takeaways and restaurants in many western countries. Here in China, every province will claim that their food is the best in China. The food on offer varies greatly from province to province, the very spicy to plain tasting but delicious. I like my food to be a little spicy, but generally ask for non-spicy. Here the interpretation of a little spicy is much hotter than mine. In some restaurants non-spicy can still be mildly spiced.

I enjoy eating the street food, generally small takeaways that set up in the evenings. It is known as barbeque, but not the same as you would expect from a western style bbq. It is mostly delicious and a great way to spend an evening with friends and a beer or two.

5/friendly people ever since I first arrived in China I have thought the Chinese people in general to be friendly. OK, you will always have some exceptions to that, but in general people want to talk to you (or try to talk) by practicing their limited English. Some of the questions may seem to be a little too deep as they may ask questions westerners would not ask on first meeting someone. That is usually a case of different cultures and curiosity. They usually want to know your name, where you are from, why you are in China and where you are going. Being constantly asked the same questions can get a little tiresome, but I find a smile, polite answer and a chance for them to practice their English with a foreign person is all they want. You may be the first non Chinese person they have spoken to.
